Ulrich Hernandez umpiring as a Dutch Caribbean in Europe the last 3 years

Mr. Ulrich “Pel” Hernandez got his Basic Course Umpire of the ITTF given by Ramon “Moncho” Ortega Montes in June 2014.

The Curaçao Table Tennis Federation, advised by Moncho, got an invitation of the Barbados Table Tennis Federation to send one of her national umpires to the ITTF World Cadet Challenge. Pel was chosen to go, based on his availability and the will to get international experience. He did a very good job and got the opportunity to assist in the final match.

After this first experience he got a passion for this sport and was willing to go for more tournaments. The next one, as he was seeking all the time where to go, he went to Puerto Rico as umpire in a Latin American Championship in June 2015.

Besides umpire Pel is a certificated coach (ITTF PTT L1) as well. He is an assistant of our head coach in training the kids in U11 up to U18.

Pel is a very active sportsman and participate to the 4-day walk of Nijmegen in Holland for years. This year it should be close to his 25th consecutive year participating. As this event is in July, Pel takes immediately the opportunity to see if there is any tournament in the 2nd quarter of the year in Europe and makes his trip to Holland some months earlier.

So he starts gaining experience in Europe and this is his 3rd year participating. Here the following tournaments as a Caribbean umpire of the island of Curaçao:

In May 2016 in Spain at the ITTF Spanish Junior & Cadet Open in Playa D’ Aro during May 4th– 8th. Directly after the Spanish PTT Junior Open at El Prat de Llobregat in June.

In 2017 he participated at 4 tournaments:

  • During April 19th-24th in Belgium at the Belgium Junior & Open Cadet in Spa.
  • During June 21st-25th in Spain at the Spanish Junior & Cadet in Playa D’Aro.
  • In Spain again during November 8th-12th at the PTT Spanish Open in Alicante.
  • To close these series of participation he was at the ITTF Challenge Spanish Open in Almeria during November 22nd-26th.

This year he just finished participating for the first time in Italy. He was nominated for the ITTF Italian Junior & Cadet International in LIGNANO Sabiadoro during March 21st -25th. (Picture 3rd at left in the back)

His next will be XLI Spanish Junior & Cadet Open Platja DÁro Girona Spain, followed by the World Junior Open in Spa Belgium.

In 2017 mr. Ulrich Pel was nominated and proclaimed as the official of the year 2016 by the Curaçao Sports & Olympic Federation.
